Creating and improving available water supplies for the agricultural operations.
As of December 2015, over $250,000 was obtained from the Environmental Enhancements Grant Program with the NC Attorney General’s Office, the Altria Group, and the Rural Center.
The Early Years
District staff across the state were trained on the current process to obtain an Agriculture Pond Exemption from the Army Corps of Engineers. Representatives of the Agricultural, Forestry and Conservation communities evaluated current water resources and future needs, the findings are in Ag H2O can be found ncagwater.org. Report results documented the need for the Agriculture Resources Assistance Program (AgWRAP), a state funded water quantity cost share program.
A round of pond design and planning workshops was offered to the conservation partnership technical staff, providing over 90 training opportunities. As of December 2015 five on-farm projects have been completed provindg a combined total of 13 million gallons of on-farm water capacity.
